About North Kamloops, North Shore

Well known as the North Shore, North Kamloops has a little bit of everything!

North Kamloops is home to some of the older homes in the Kamloops area second to the South Kamloops downtown region. This is due to its location, on the flat land located on the north side of the city. North Kamloops is bordered by the North and South Thompson Rivers and they join at the furthest south east tip of North Kamloops.

This area of Kamloops is one of the other larger shopping districts in Kamloops. Serving the communities on the North side of Kamloops (North Kamloops, Brock, Westside, Westmount and Batchelor heights). There are two larger mall areas, Northills with Independent Grocer and Shoppers Drug Mart to name a couple of the businesses. North of Northills Mall there is a second open air mall which is home to Safeway and a number of other retailers. The Tranquille corridor has a lot of restaurants, services, the Yew Street Food Hall, Bright Eyed Brewing and Red Beard Cafe to name a few of the interesting places to visit. Along 8th Street there are a number of other retailers such as Canadian Tire. The North Kamloops shopping district has everything the residents of the region need.

North Kamloops is a fairly large area of Kamloops. There are some areas currently undergoing a large transformation. Royal Avenue has seen a number of new homes built along the riverfront. The riverfront properties on Royal Ave have very nice river access with Sandy beach areas and docks are permitted (with permits). There are a lot of preexisting docs along the riverfront. A large project is coming to the Royal Avenue area which is a large condo development along the Thompson River riverfront. Thompson Landing will feature 64 condo units spread among two low rise buildings. These units feature some sort of river view, river access and vary in size. Royal Avenue is close to McDonald park which is a great community hub for the local residents during the warmer months.

At the far south west end of North Kamloops the popular McArthur Park is located. There are a number of residents who live around the park which is separated by a small river that branches off of the Thompson River. McArthur island is a sports mecca with McArthur Island sports facilities which house ice rinks, multi purpose space, soccer fields, softball and baseball diamonds, a skate park, mini golf, disc golf and other playground areas. The Rivers trail runs through McArthur Island.

The area of North Kamloops that sits between the North Thompson River and 8th Street is a nice community that is very walkable. There is access to the Rivers Trail and the Sandy banks of the Thompson River. There are a number of playgrounds and parks scattered among this neighborhood. Most homes have easy walking access to the two main malls in North Kamloops.

The neighbourhood that sits between 8th and 12th Street has a mix of single family and duplex homes. There are a lot of homes in this area that have seen substantial upgrades and renovations. There are also a lot of homes in this area that have in-law or legal suites.

The Tranquille corridor included some newly built condos which are both rental and owner purposed. They are built close to transportation and amenities for those occupants and owners. There is predominantly single family homes in North Kamloops but there are townhouses and duplex properties throughout the region. For those older residents there are a couple of 55+ mobile home parks. These are great for older adults who still want their own space but want to downsize.

North Kamloops has elementary and senior secondary school levels but middle school students attend Brock Middle School. There is a major bus loop at Northills Mall with a number of routes and North Kamloops is serviced by regular and frequent service.
