Kamloops is a city in British Columbia, located in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District. It is the largest community in the Thompson Valley and the location of the regional district's offices. Kamloops is known for its dry, hot summers and cold winters, making it a popular destination for outdoor recreation. The city is located in the Thompson River Valley, and the surrounding area is home to many lakes, rivers, and parks, including the Wells Gray Provincial Park, which is a popular spot for hiking, fishing, and camping. Kamloops is also home to a number of cultural and recreational attractions, including the Kamloops Art Gallery, the Kamloops Museum and Archives, and the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra.
Kamloops has grown over the past decade to a larger city with a population somewhere around 100,000 people as of 2022. Kamloops does have a fairly large trading population where most of those areas are within 30 to 45 minutes of the Kamloops city centre. The North and South Thompson Rivers form a lot of the landscape in Kamloops. The city has both the CN and CP rail lines traveling through it making it a large hub for many areas of BC and beyond. The landscape in Kamloops is very unique since it is considered a northern desert. You will find many sweeping grasslands, sandstone hillsides, hoodos and white sand riverbanks which has extended to a number of the local lakes.
The climate in Kamloops can range greatly from season to season. The summer months can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius however a typical summer ranges between 25 to 30 degrees. The winter months bring a good amount of snow to the region. The typical winter temperatures are often around -5 celcius to -10 however the temperatures at times can reach as low as the -30’s. Many don’t know this but the climate in Kamloops can range greatly from the valley bottom to the top of the hill (Aberdeen/Knutsford areas).
